Ryan Giggs is excited to see Paul Pogba pair up with Bruno Fernandes for Manchester United

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs believes Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes will be able to play together due to their ‘individual quality’.

Since Fernandes joined United in the January transfer window, the Frenchman has been sidelined with an ankle injury as the Portuguese new boy has made quite the impression on the Premier League in his short time.

Pogba is now back to full fitness after the legnth enforced break due to the coronavirus crisis and he faced up against Fernandes in a intra-squad training friendly at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Wales national team manager is confident that both players will gel in the United midfield ahead of the Premier League’s return on June 17, as he spoke ahead of The Race – Wheels for Heroes, a virtual charity race organised to raise funds for the NHS.

‘You can’t answer that question until the play together, whether or not they will gel. Good players should be able to play with good players but we’ll have to wait and see. They both have lots of quality, it’s about if they can complement each other now.’

Giggs had plenty of praise for Fernandes – who joined from Sporting Lisbon after a lengthy transfer saga – as he hailed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s new signings as ‘good people’.

‘Ole’s signings have been good, not only as players but they are good people. Fernandes coming in has given everyone a lift, it’s an exciting end to the season.’

The Welshman also implied that the 25-year-old could have the same impact at Old Trafford as club legend Eric Cantona, as he explained: ‘It’s early doors to be talking about the players who have come in and made an impact [such as Eric Cantona] but certainly he’s off to a great start.

‘He’s made players around him better and has just fitted in straight away. That’s always what you pray for when a new signing comes in. He looks a good guy as well, he wants to play for the club. He’s exciting, when he receives the ball he will try things, if something doesn’t come off he will try it again, he’s brilliant to watch.

‘He’s given everyone a lift, the players around him, the staff, the fans. A really positive start but a long way to go yet.’

Jack Grealish ‘leapfrogs Jadon Sancho as Manchester United’s No 1 summer transfer target’

Jack Grealish is at the top of Manchester United’s summer transfer target, with the Red Devils prioritising a move for the Aston Villa captain over Jadon Sancho, according to reports

United believe Grealish can play a vital role in helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team challenge for titles having impressed at Villa Park this season

According to the Mirror, senior figures at Old Trafford are now weighing up an £80million move for the 24-year-old and hope that it will be enough to tempt Villa into parting ways with their talented playmaker.

Grealish put the move in doubt at the end of March after flouting government lockdown rules to attend a late-night party at the flat of former team-mate Ross McCormack, before he crashed his Range Rover shortly after.

Grealish was fined £150,000 for his actions and was forced to make a grovelling apology – just hours after he failed to heed his own advice about staying indoors before he apologised for his ‘stupidity’.

However, Grealish’s lack of discipline and off-field antics have not discouraged United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer from pressing ahead with the move.

The report goes on to suggest that United officials have cooled their interest in England starlet Sancho for the time being with Borussia Dortmund are unwilling to lower their £100m asking price.

That kind of outlay is becoming increasingly difficult for United to justify, with the club not able to stump up that kind of cash for a player they already have alternatives to.

The Bundesliga side are also happy to hold on to one of their prized assets for another season, despite rumoured interest from Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane’s outfit reportedly cannot afford to splash the cash on Sancho in a few months but it is unquestionable that the England international is on the radar as the Frenchman looks to overhaul his attacking options.

Sancho has underlined his quality once again this season with an incredible 17 goals and 17 assists in 28 Bundesliga games for Dortmund – including a hat-trick in the 6-1 victory last weekend at Paderborn.
