1. 675 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Nigeria, total confirmed cases now 20,919.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has reported 675 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number of active infections to 20,919.

7109 cases have been discharged and 525 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 675 new cases are reported from 21 states, namely: Lagos(288), Oyo(76), Rivers(56), Delta(31), Ebonyi(30), Gombe(28), Ondo(20), Kaduna(20), Kwara(20), Ogun(17), FCT(16), Edo(13), Abia(10), Nasarawa(9), Imo(9),Bayelsa(8), Borno(8), Katsina(8), Sokoto(3), Bauchi(3), Plateau(2).

2. Lagos State government sacks LAWMA contractors over fraud.

There was drama at the Lagos House, Marina, when the Lagos State Government terminated the contracts of some operators with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority.

The government said the operators violated some terms of their agreement with the government.

According to the report released, the contractors, allegedly inflated the wage bills of the street sweepers and supervisors under them.

It was gathered that, the State Government, pays the contractors over N560m monthly.

3. Presidential Task Team saysBad road responsible for Oshodi-Apapa Expressway gridlock.

The Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team, Mr Kayode Opeifa has attributed the renewed gridlock along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway to the tidal effect of the Atlantic Ocean as a result of persistent rainfall which has left most parts of Lagos flooded.

Opeifa also blamed the gridlock to various potholes along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, on both sides as well as construction work being undertaken by Hi-Tech Construction company.

He said that the backlog of vessels discharged of consignments at the seaport during the lockdown on COVID19 could also be attributed to the current gridlock and congestion at Can Island Port Complex,TCIPC, even as the combined traffic personnel deployed to the access road were yet to proffer solution to the perennial gridlock.

4. ECOWAS endorses Okonjo-Iweala’s World Trade Organisation candidacy.

The ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government has endorsed the candidacy of Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

The apex body noted that since the creation of the WTO on January 1, 1995, as a successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade established on January 1, 1948, no African has assumed the top position of the organisation.

According to reports, this is coming against the opposition to Okonjo-Iweala’s nomination by the African Union and Egypt.
